Pinoy Noontime Show Then and Now...
0 comments Sunday, March 15, 2009Student Canteen Originally started as a radio program in the 50's hosted by Bobby Ledesma† and Eddie Ilarde. The title and the concept of the show was concieved through CBN canteen wherein most of the customers were students from the nearby schools near CBN studio. The show ended in 1965 until it was revived in 1974 this time at RBS Channe 7 (now GMA-7) produced by main host himself Mr. Eddie Ilarde and co- hosted by Pepe Pimentel and Bobby Ledesma† among others. Original channel ABS-CBN (1957-1972) , RPN (1972-1979), GMA Network (1979-1986), IBC (1986-1990). Popular segments: "Search for the Student Canteener" , "Search for Johnny Mathis of the Philippines." , "Body Language", IQ 7 among others.
Eat... Bulaga! The second noontime show in the Philippines and the one that beat the original noontime show Sudent Canteen. The first years of Eat Bulaga! was not a sucess story. It's main hosts TVJ and Coney Reyes were all came from the competitor show Student Canteen. The show was about to axed due to poor rating performance and low commercial load until the contest " Macho Man" was launched in 1980 it's popularity made Eat Bulaga the new top rating noontime show until it's present time. So far Eat Bulaga! beated many of it's rival shows including Student Canteen, Lunch Date, Salo- Salo Together (SST), Chibugan Na!, Lunch Break, Chowtime Na! 'Sang Linggo nAPO Sila, MTB (3 time reformated). So far Eat Bulaga holds the record of being the longest running nootime show to date 30 years (1979- present).
Lunch Date Aired from 1986- 1983 it's original hosts were Orly Mercado, Rico J. Puno, Toni Rose Gayda and Chiqui Hollman. When the show was reformatted after a year of its first airing only Toni Rose was left and and brought in a mix of old and new face for the show including: Randy Santiago, Lito Pimentel, Pilita Corrales, Tina Revilla, Louie Heredia, Sheryl Cruz, Jon Santos, Dennis Padilla, Fe delos Reyes, Keno, Atoy Co and even Willie Revillame! other hosts who later joined the show are: Manilyn Reynes, Rustom Padilla, Ai-ai delas Alas, Samantha Chaves and Isabel Granada. Popular segments includes: Modus Operandi, Ulat Panggulat, Bonggang Beautician, Mr. Dreamboy, Munting Mutya Philippines and Power Words.
Salo-Salo Together (SST) Actually during my younger years this is my favorite noontime show! It aired from 1993- 1995 at Broadway Centrum SST was headlined by Randy Santiago, Willie Revillame, Smokey Manaloto, Anjanette Abayari, Liezl Martinez, Joy Ortega and Giselle Sanchez. At first, SST took over its rival show Eat Bulaga by providing fresh and interactive portions like "Knock-knock Hello", Sari Sari Stories, and Ano ka, Hello?. Despite of short popularity, the show has to moved to morning slot to give way to Eat Bulaga after moving out from ABS-CBN. SST became a pre-programming of Eat Bulaga! airing at 10:30 am to 12nn. Eventually, the show's segment "Katok Mga Misis" hosted by Giovanni Calvo replaced SST and became a full-length morning talk show pited to ABS-CBN's Teysi ng Tahanan.
Chibugan Na! Im not sure about the exact year of it's airing but i think it's was aired at RPN-9 a year after SST was launched. Hosted by Rico J. Puno, Chiqui Pineda, Timmy Cruz, Hadji Alejandro and Arnell Ignacio. Arnell Ignacio became popular because of this show i think. I remember the segment where a contestant who can answer the question or who will win the contest gets to take home a load of goodies from their sponsors like a pack of fish sauce, a set of "Orocan" plastic wares and a lot more of groceries and toiletries stuffs. One time, i midst of eclipse issue Arnell spoofed "Eclipse live Coverage" by using the lid od an Orocan water container with a small circular lid at the middle that you can closed and open. The show is really hillarious and full of fun despite of the show's low budget and poor ratings. I think they only lasted a year or two.
'Sang Linngo nAPO Sila! The show was a spinoff of ABS-CBN's popular Sunday noon-time show Sa Linggo nAPO Sila. It was one of the new shows launched by ABS-CBN in 1995 as part of their "Primetime on Daytime" block after Eat Bulaga! moved from ABS-CBN to GMA. It aired live daily from ABS-CBN's studio at the Delta Theater until it moved to Studio 3 at the ABS-CBN Broadcast Center. Sang Linggo nAPO Sila garnered high ratings from the start of its airing but it was not able to overtake Eat Bulaga! permanently, but it did gain popularity in regions where GMA's signals were weak and ABS-CBN's signals were stronger. The show also introduced many new talents to television, but Eat Bulaga! still stayed on top. The downfall of nAPO was blamed on the humor being "too intelligent for the average Filipino". The show was later canceled in 1998, while co-hosts Randy Santiago, John Estrada and Willie Revillame want on to become the hosts of the show's replacement: Magandang Tanghali Bayan.
MTB (Magandang Tanghali Bayan) Aired from November 1998 to February 2005. The noontime show gained popularity because of a segment called Pera o Bayong, a game of chance where at stake was either a cash prize of P1,000,000 or a showcase chosen by the contestants (e.g. entertainment showcase, living room showcase, livelihood showcase, etc.) which were hidden in either 3 "bayongs" (rattan bags) marked as M, T or B. At the same time, "MTB" gained notoriety because of its Calendar Girl beauty pageant, where the contestants were subjected to double-meaning questions and jokes thrown by Randy, John and Willie. Other popular segments included Sa Pula o Sa Puti, Munting Miss U, Japorms, Ano Ka Hilo?, Wansa Funny Taym and Winner Take All. Due to its low ratings after several format and minor name changes, MTB was later canceled in February and replaced by Masayang Tanghali Bayan (A Happy Afternoon, People). The show was hosted by Randy Santiaga, John Estrada and Willie Revillame and was co-hosted by Ai-ai delas Alas, Roderick Paulate, Amy Perez , Christine Jacob and many more.
Wowoee The most controversial noontime show in the Philippine tv history. The first blow happened February 4, 2006 at Ultra where Wowowee's 1st Year anniversarry was supposed to be held. At around 06:30 AM local time at least 73 people were trampled to death and more than 300 were injured when a stampede broke out at the PhilSports Complex (formerly ULTRA) in Pasig City, where the first anniversary celebration of Wowowee would be held at noon. The crush began when the organizers of the show began handing out tickets to people in the crowd, many of whom had been camping outside the stadium for days. Up to now those who died and who got injured are looking for justice. Wilyonaryo Controversy: On the August 20, 2007 episode of Wowowee, a technical fault occurred during Willyonaryo game which led people to think (including the host of one of the show's competitors in its timeslot) that the game was or could be rigged. These were only "some" of the controversies happened over the 2 years of it's airing and still continue to make headlines because it'a main host Willie Revillame himself is a news maker and controversial celebrity be it personal or showbiz career. Wowowee once beated Eat Bulaga in the ratings game both Mega Manila and Nationwide surveys. But Eat Bulaga re-gain it's leadership in Mega Manila and most part of Luzon when Itaktak Mo, Tatakbo segment was launched. Presently, Wowowee remains it's leadership in Vis-Min area and some parts of the world where TFC (The Filipino Channel) caters.
Other noontime shows aired was: Chowtime Na!, Lunch Break and Esep-Esep (aired as temporary replacement for MTB during it's suspension to air for sometime.
Footnotes: sorry i can't find logos or pictures from Lunch Date and Chibugan Na! SST's logo that you've seen here i just made it since this is how the exact logo looked like but they eventually put two wings on it's sides calling it "SST with Wings".
Jonalyn Viray as Maria Mercedes?
0 commentsFirst, Jonalyn (or the trio La Diva) will soon release an album called Im Your Fantasy this 2009 check out the title...taray! Second is when i was reading her Filmography, i was suprised to know that she will be part of Maria Mercedes and her role is Maria Mercedes herself (how true is this?)
I thought ABS-CBN owns the right for Philippine remake for tv of this popular Thalia Mexicanovela? Whoever created this info about Jonalyn Viray i hope his/her sources were reliable. Jonalyn is a great singer/performer and there's nothing wrong if GMA will give her a break via a soap but playing lead role as big as a Maria Mercedes role is definitely not possible for Jonalyn for now.. she better concentrate on her singing career where she does it best. Goodluck to her upcoming album and first major concert abroad!

0 commentsJasmine and Jorge is OUT
0 commentsLast Thursday, 11 finalist were left and will proceed to the next round... Jasmine Murray and Jorge Nunez were the first to be eliminated from the Top 13 finalists. Another twist was revealed that judges may save you from being eliminated only if they thought that you deserve another chance and that maybe a wrong choice of song brought you from being eliminated. It must be a unanimous decision to be able to give another shot for the next round and you can only be save once.

0 comments Tuesday, March 10, 2009Multi-platinum selling albums, sold-out concerts here and abroad, blockbuster movies,
tri-media endorsements, top rating soaps and variety shows what more a Regine Velaquez
would ask for?
She was always compared to different singers of her contemporary like Lani Misalucha,
Whitney Houston, Celine Dion, and Mariah Carey.
She was once accused of immitating Mariah Carey singing style and dress-up style as well.
I remember she had this spag strap blouse in her video "For The Love of You" very
similar to Mariah's blouse in "Heartbreaker" video.
During that time Regine switch from being a diva belter to being an RNB singer which
again another metamorphosis happened to superstar Mariah Carey...
and the butterfly thing isn't it a Mariah Carey's trademark? (No offense meant here
just an opinion and observation...)
Watch the two videos and compare: Voice range: 4 Octaves
Regine Velasquez: "For The Love of You" from the album R2K
Mariah Carey: Heartbreaker from the album Rainbow
Lani Misalucha: Asia's Nightingale
Misalucha's depth (vocal strength held in reserve) and wide range have been frequently compared to those of popular divas such as Whitney Houston and Celine Dion. Since arriving in Las Vegas in 2004, Misalucha has been called "New Siren of the Strip." In March 2008, Misalucha was voted "Best Singer" (staff pick) in the "27th Annual Best of Las Vegas" poll conducted on 8,000 respondents by the Las Vegas Review Journal. This put her in the same sentence as super-diva Celine Dion, the readers' pick for "Best Singer". Voice range: Full 3 Octaves (can sing in whistle register)
Watch Lani Misalucha on You Tube: (one of my fave Lani's renditions)

Jaya: The Queen of Soul
Jaya had her own shining moment way back in the mid- '90's> Her signature songs Dahil Tanging Ikaw, Laging Naron' Ka, Kung Wala Ka Na and many others became movie titles and theme songs as well. Her breakthrough in Philippine music scene is via Metropop Song Festival in 1996 where her rendition of the song entry Sometimes You Just Know won composed by Danny Tan. Jaya is classified as a dramatic soprano, widely known for her dark, big voice, belting as much as Ab5 in her rendition of "Through the Fire".
Sarah Geronimo: The Pop Star
Sarah's claim to fame is when she won the singing contest Star For A Night hosted by Regine Velasquez in 2003. She's being compared to her contemporaries (singing style not popularity, ok?) Kyla, Rachelle Ann Go, Jonalyn Viray, Nina and Britney Spears.
When she transferred to ABS-CBN she became a bigger star leaving her local contemporaries behind. In my personal opinion, Sarah sings best when she sings Pop rather than belting.
Nina: The Soul Siren
When i first heard her in her Foolish Heart single i thought she's pretty interesting because of her capability to sing in whistle register (very rare to our local singers) Her biggest selling album is Nina Live reached 8x Platinum with singles Chakka Khan original Through The Fire and Love Moves In Mysterious Way among others. She is classified as Lyric Coloratura Soprano

JC Remains Kapuso!
0 comments"Para akong nabunutan ng malaking tinik" 23 y.o old actor said in an interview during his birth day celebration last March 9 (March 10 is he's real birthday) at Barrackz Bar which he is one of the owner. JC thinks that this best time to celebrate because finally the conflict abut his manager and his home network (GMA-7) settled the issues. Earlier, GMA Network President and CEO Atty. Felipe L. Gozon or as they call him FLG and other network executives sit down for an emergency meeting with JC's manager Annabelle Rama regarding the never-ending rift of the said talent manager with the GMA network lady executive Wilma Galvante. JC was at first doubltful of the outcome of the emergency meeting but when her manager said to him that he will be staying at the Kapuso network and they agreed to accept the roles being offered by the network. However, Atty. Gozon said to Rama that the network cannot stop Wilma Galvante if the lady executive want to pursue a legal action in her personal capicity against Annabelle Rama for saying a lot of destructive words. The Network can only support JC's career and they are the ones who will decide what role to be given to a particular talent of the network. So, what would be the next issue of Annabelle Rama and Wilma Galvante?

1 comments Sunday, March 8, 2009Bb. Pilipinas Grand Coronation night
0 comments Saturday, March 7, 2009Last night the most prestigious beauty pageant in the country was held known as The Bb. Pilipinas 2009 in it's 45th year live at The Araneta Coliseum. 23 beauties from different regions and cities of the Philippines have gathered to compete for 3 crowns and 2 runners-up title. I have noticed that Bb. Pilipinas organizers have been focusing on the Bb. Pilipinas-World title for the last two years i think the said title was always been called last and supposedly it's the Bb. Pilipinas-Universe to be called last (as being the highest of them all) But my observation here is that maybe the organizer wanted the most fairest, most inteligent of the three finalist to compete for the Miss World instead for the Miss Universe coz we have yet to bring home the Miss World crown up to this date the closest being 1st Princess and 2nd Princess courtesy of Evangeline Pascual (1973) and Sharmaine "Ruffa" Gutierrez (1993). Anyways here are the names, photos and the profiles of Bb. Pilipinas 5 tittle holders:

She holds a degree in Computer Science from Ateneo de Manila University.

Vital Statistics: 33-24-34 1/2
This 20-year-old knockout is a graduate of UP Diliman with a degree in Tourism.
If Richell’s lovely face is strikingly familiar, that’s because she is currently one of GMA’s prized young talents.
Bb. Pilinas International (to compete in Macau China, and Tokyo Japan)
Melody Gersbach
Age: 23 years old
Place of birth: Germany

(2006 Bb. Pilipinas Candidate)

Vital Statistics: 35-25 1/2-36
Mary Ann took up Tourism at DLSU College of St. Benilde.
The 22-year old’s future plans include becoming a Flight Attendant and putting up her own restaurant business.
Another interesting note in the last nights pageant is some celebrity judges like: Mac-mac Cardona (Talk 'n Text PBA basketball player), matinee idol Richard Gomez, and Asia's song bird Ms. Regine Velasquez.
Lastly, I pity for candidate #3 Richelle Anggalot's (Rich Asuncion) question from one of the judges she had chosen, the question for her is: "What is your lucky number and what is it's significance to your life?" What if she don't really have a lucky number or she doesn't even believe in lucky stuffs like that so how would she ever relate to that question. I guess Rich just uttered whatever came to her mind and she thought of the number 11 being the 11 month (November) where she first had a boyfriend (is it Aljur Abrenica?) and she first experience love and it made her a better person...BOW! lolz!
American Idol Season 8 Update:
0 commentsFirst, they included a fourth judge Kara DioGuardi also a record producer. Second, they had this wild card night wherein 8 of them gets another chance to prove they deserve to made it through but only 3 of them (supposedly) will be chosen by the judges to complete the final 12 line-up. Third, when Matt Giraud was announced to be the last contestant to complete the top 12, Annop Desai was already disappointed after hearing the judges decision but to everyone surprised, Simon called back Anoop that he would tell something to him...
Obviously Anoop was confused of what Simon would announce. Instead of being sent home, Anoop was told that this season’s math was changing: He was now the last of Idol’s new Top 13. Stunned, he covered his face with his hands.
Catch American Idol on it's new slot: Saturdays and Sundays 6pm only on Q Channel 11.
Thank you everyone!

A Short Tribute for Francis M.
0 comments Thursday, March 5, 2009Biography
A sibling of nine brothers and sisters, Francis Magalona is the son of late Philippine movie screen legends Pancho Magalona and Tita Duran. The late Senator Enrique Magalona was his grandfather.
Starting out as a breakdancer in the early 1980s, he followed in his parents footsteps and ventured out into acting, appearing in several Filipino movies; he branched out to emceeing and released the groundbreaking album Yo! in 1990 garnering the nationalistic hit Mga Kababayan (My Countrymen), making Yo! the first commercially released Pinoy rap album in the Philippines.[1] While rapping politically conscious and thought-provoking rhymes in both English and Tagalog, the album was a total success and helped instantly catapult Filipino hip hop from underground to mainstream status and also marked the birth of Makabayang or Nationalistic rap in Filipino hip hop.
In 1992, Francis Magalona released Rap Is FrancisM (1992), which is highly regarded as one of the greatest Pinoy Rap albums. With tracks addressing the various cultural and social problems that plagued his country such as drug addiction in "Mga Praning" (Paranoids), political instability in "Halalan" (Elections) as well as the detrimental effects of a colonial mentality in "Tayo'y Mga Pinoy" (We Are Filipinos), the record's complexity and conscious message quickly earned it its classic status and became the standard by which future albums of the genre were to be compared.[2]
The release of his third album, "Meron akong ano!" (I Got Some!) in 1993, followed by "FreeMan" in 1995 marked the beginning of Francis' experimentation with Pinoy rock, becoming an exceptional artist in both genres of music. He has frequently collaborated with other Pinoy music luminaries such as Joey Ayala, Heber Bartolome, Ryan Cayabyab, Mike Hanopol of the legendary Juan dela Cruz Band, Andrew E, Michael V and Denmark and of course, the Eraserheads. Even more recently he has be°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°en seen working side by side with Pikaso, Gloc 9, Stick Figgas and Parokya ni Edgar.
FrancisM's contributions to the genre have been featured in several international hip hop publications including the All Music Guide to Hip-Hop: The Definitive Guide to Rap and Hip-Hop (2003) published by Backbeat Books; as well as the May 2004 issue of the U.S. based publication The Source. FrancisM was also given the Pioneer Hall of Fame Award by Empire Entertainment at the 1st Annual Philippine Hip-Hop Music Awards in 2005.[3]
Over the years FrancisM has also branched out to numerous hosting responsibilities; and has been part of several television shows including the longest running daytime television show in the Philippines Eat Bulaga!, as well as being a VJ for MTV Asia. Magalona is MTV Asia's first Filipino VJ along with Regine Tolentino and Donita Rose. He worked with MTV from 1997 up to 2000. Aside from television, he also hosts live events and presentations.
n 2002, along with the assistance of then FUBU Philippines' management Carlo Maniquiz and Nick Tuazon(who is currently the Editor-In-Chief and CEO of Digital Photographer Philippines, Francis launched a compilation album of the same name later that year showcasing a basic who's who of local hip-hop talents in and around the islands.[4] Later that year, Francis Magalona's greatest hits album, The Best of FrancisM was released by Musiko and Sony BMG Philippines. He had also been chosen by Fremantle Media, owners of American Idol, and their local counterpart ABC-5 (owners of the 'Idol' franchise in that country) as one of the judges of Philippine Idol, alongside Maestro Ryan Cayabyab and Ms. Pilita Corrales, Asia's Queen of songs.
FrancisM was the recipient of the coveted MTV Pilipinas Video Music Awards Generations Award in 2006 "in recognition of his career that has spanned decades and broken boundaries, and for his music which continues to inspire generations of artists and music fans both here and abroad." He is the second honoree, the first having been singer Gary Valenciano at the 2005 rites.
He will launch a collaboration album with Ely Buendia and various OPM artists in 2009, dubbed as "The Sickos Project." He passed away on March 6, 2009 at the age of 44. ±°
Other Works
He has since founded his own record company called Red Egg Records, a clothing line called FMCC (FrancisM Clothing Co.), as well as his own production company called Filipino Pictures Inc. wherein he is the resident Director and has made music videos for several bands and solo artists. His work on Sponge Cola's "KLSP" won Best Rock Video at the 2006 MYX Video Awards. Other music videos directed by Francis Magalona are for artists such as, Ely Buendia, Gloc 9, Join The Club, Shamrock, Pikaso, Death Threat and Denmark. Recently, he started a foundation with Ely Buendia called Heartist Foundation. The foundation aims to help Filipino artists with health and commercial concerns.
FrancisM is truly a multi-media artist, as he has held exhibits in painting and in photography. Just recently, he was inducted as a regular member of the illustrious Camera Club of the Philippines (CCP), after a record-breaking 5-month stint as a probationary member.
Personal life
Married to Pia Arroyo, they have eight children: Unna, Nicolo, Francis Jr., Elmo, Arkin, Clara, and actresses Maxene and Saab. He also joined the fraternity namely Alpha Kappa Rho in the 1980s.
Health
Magalona, 43, was diagnosed in August, 2008, with leukemia at the Medical City Hospital, Mandaluyong. He appealed for privacy: “I don’t want a media circus. I want privacy with my family. What I’d rather talk about is how we can solicit blood donations to replace the supply that I have consumed in the hospital.” Francis’ wife, Pia Arroyo-Magalona, said: “It was very gradual, hindi siya biglaang lumabas. We don’t want to use the word ‘curable,’ but the doctors say it’s treatable. ”[9]
After his treatment and discharge, he made his return on Eat Bulaga together with Ely Buendia, who was also recently discharged.
Death
Francis Magalona died on March 6, 2009 at 12 noon because of his illness.

Francis Magalona past away
0 commentsMaster rapper and Eat Bulaga main t.v host Francis Magalona or popularly known as Francis M. just died today March 6, 2009 at 12nn... During "Sa Pula Sa Puti" segment of Eat Bulaga, Vic Sotto announced the death of the master rapper. Francis M. died at the age of 44 of Leukemia...
I was in a shock upon hearing this cause i remember just recently he came back to Eat Bulaga and even perform for a song number so i thought all the while that Kiko was doing just fine and recovering from Cancer...
I wish to express my sincere condolences to Kiko's family and friends....
more details to come...
Before they were famous...( Philippine Edition)
0 commentsDuring this year that this Skinwhite tv ad was done i think Marian is already a t.v star in an after soap for TAPE inc. but she's less popular back then before winning the title role of Marimar, the hit Pinoy version aired over GMA- 7 on Telebabad slot. Now Marian has more or less 25 tri-media endorsements, numerous movies, gold and platinum albums, and several awards under her name.
Cogie Domingo for Penshoppe:
He was considered as one of the finest young actor of his generation unfortunately his career became so gloomy in the present. I think a good and right project can make Cogie back in the limelight and of course professionalism because this guy was accused of being late or sometimes he doesn't show-off in most of his tapings or engagement. But the boy is HOT! isn't he?
Nikki Gil for Coke commercial:
Nikki was first seen (I think?) on t.v via the infamous Coke or Coca-cola commercial. The jingle which she sung herself became very famous in every household especially to the younger ones.. Now Nikki can be seen regularly on ABS-CBN's ASAP '09, MYX as a videojock and Pinoy Big Brother stints. Luck and talent what made this girl famous now...
Rhian Ramos for Mc Donald's Mc Jelly Trio:
Rhian is said to be "Just another pretty face period." But she proved them wrong. Just recently she played the lead title role Lola for La Lola Pinoy version. The show did good in the ratings game that she earned several endorsement deals just recently with Clear Anti Dandruff Shampoo and Carefree Panty shields. She also reprented our country together with other GMA-7 talents last year in Asian Supermodel search. She will be seen on big screen via GMA Films' Robin Padilla starer "Sundo" a horror flick to be shown this March 2009.

Brad Pitt for Pringles
Role: Person Who Is Way Too Physically Attractive to Actually Use This Product
Synopsis: There's a vague narrative about broken-down cars and white people dancing, but it's lost in the quasi-Japanese bizarreness of the whole spot. Also, "Pringles: The Fever Reliever?" We're wary of any product that could share a tagline with Junior Strength MOTRIN.
Bottom Line: Sex sells, and if sexy people like the soon-to-be Brad Pitt use a product, why shouldn't we? If only we lived in advertising land, where eating greasy chips led to slow-motion gyrations with sun-kissed members of the opposite sex. Instead, all we got was this damned deep-seated self-loathing.
Bonus Moment: The high-pitched screeching of "We've got the fever for the Pringles!" halfway through will haunt your dreams for weeks to come.
Check the video:
Role: Joey Tribbiani
Synopsis: A young, struggling actor with limited range and no visible means of support tries to impress women by dripping condiments off his apartment roof.
Bottom Line: Besides providing further evidence that Joey Tribbiani is a real person and "Matt LeBlanc" is merely an elaborate tax shelter, this commercial proves another theory of ours: Glass ketchup bottles are the worst, most outdated invention, ever. Should it really take five stories of gravity to get a single drop of ketchup?
Bonus Moment: The flirtatious/creepy wink at the end, soon to develop into a catchphrase that we refuse to repeat here.
Check the video:
Elijah Wood for Pizza Hut
Role: One-Fifth of the Implausibly, Clumsy Suburban Family
Synopsis: No matter how hard lil' Elijah's dad tries, he just can't cook those hamburgers! They just come out small, shriveled and unsatisfying! Oh man, I bet that's coming up in the divorce hearings! If only they'd tried this exotic "peet-zah" instead.
Bottom Line: This ad resorts to a tactic typically seen in infomercials: Make your product's alternative/competition look so inhumanly hard, that to not buy your product would border on heresy. However, since most Americans know how to take a shower or how to cook a burger without losing a limb, Wood and his family just end up seeming criminally incompetent.
Bonus Moment: The family dog's bizarre, fang-baring cameo at about 16 seconds.
Check out the video:
Sarah Michelle Gellar for Burger King
Role: Cute Little Girl Who Fucking Hates McDonald'sSynopsis: A cute Sarah Michelle Gellar discovers that McDonald's uses a pennyweight's less meat in its burgers than Burger King. Outraged, she sets out to inform the world, armed with only her crayons and a national, multiplatform marketing campaign.
Bottom Line: We have no idea why advertisers think a lisp and pigtails equals credibility. It's great that, between naptime and recess, kids like Gellar find time for consumer activism. But, do we really trust the market research of someone who just recently learned full-bladder control?
Bonus Moment: The burger comparison chart's adorably informative backwards "e."
Check out the video:
Keannu Reeves for Corn Flakes
Role: Mischievous Caterer (the best kind)Synopsis: A young Keanu Reeves is stuck in a dead-end job, catering banquets for the leisure class. Only two things sustain him: His love of interpretive dance and how pissed those bourgeoisie cocksuckers will be when they find their caviar replaced with corn flakes.
Bottom Line: We're sorry Keanu is a wage slave whose only joy is mischievously stealing bites of cereal, but it still doesn't make us want to buy Kellogg's bland crap flakes. We refuse to eat anything that can't hold its own in milk for more than 10 seconds.
Bonus Moment: Keanu's last-minute check to make sure the coast is clear before guiltily indulging in a spoonful of dry cereal.
Check out the video:
Brooke Shields for C.K. Jeans:
Check out the video:
Seth Green for Nerf:
Role: A Radical Dude
Synopsis: Despite the best efforts of Seth Green's haircut, Nerf guns are still pretty much the coolest things, ever.
Bottom Line: This ad makes it scarily apparent that it's now 2007 and Seth Green has not yet hit puberty. Also, from the smokin' fashions to the "NOT!" fake-out, it's a great start to our next article, "Things We Pretend Not To Remember About the Early '90s."
Bonus Moment: Mandatory Kids' Commercial Trope No. 23: Before all's said and done, a representative of the adult world must be taken down in a suitably humiliating fashion. Here, a mime falls into a pond. Man, does Nerf get kids, or what?
Check the video:
Morgan Freeman for Listerine:
Role: Straight-Talking, Streetwise, Vaguely Racist Caricature
Synopsis: Lawdy, mastuh, sho' is hard being a po' ol' telephone repairman. Good thing 'dis mouthwash is such a powerful concoction! Now, who wants some of Aunt Jemima's pancakes?
Bottom Line: So the message is that even if something tastes bad, it can be good for you? We had no idea! Thank goodness Listerine commissioned such an informative and non-condescending minstrel show to get the message across.
Bonus Moment: The other guy's closing non-committal grunt of a response to Freeman's twisted, mouth-cleansing logic.
Check the video:
Bruce Willis for Seagram's Golden Wine Cooler:
Role: Embarrassingly Over-Enthusiastic Guy Who Breaks Into Song and Dance
Synopsis: It's a classic commercial set up-this product is so great, that the mere thought of using it causes people to start hollering and gyrating like epileptics. Here, a pre-Moonlighting Willis stars as a good ol' boy who loves his wine coolers so much, that he and his jug band have to start an impromptu porch-front jam session.
Bottom Line: Ignore momentarily that Seagram's prize beverage will be a pop-culture punch line for years to come. Instead, focus on Bruce's slurred, "authentic-drunk" performance, which allows him to deliver the inexplicable tagline "It's wet and it's dry" with complete conviction.
Bonus Moment: If you look closely, tipsy Bruce Willis actually takes a swing at the guitarist 20 seconds in, and then tries to pass it off as a pirouette.

TV-5's Everybody Hapi (sitcom) spoofed Marian Rivera- Dingdong Dantes and Karylle love triangle
0 commentsLast night, I was surfing the channels on tv. And when i got to TV-5 i saw Ara Mina and to my intrigued of what does Ara Mina doing at TV5 i decided to stay tuned for more... Everybody Hapi is a comedy sitcom which airs over TV5 (formerly ABC5) every Thursday night. Going back to the episode of EH, soon enough i realized that they are spoofing the Marian-Dingdong and Karylle love triangle. Ara Mina and Roxanne Ginoo is their guest last night and John Estrada, Eugene Domingo, Valerie Concepcion, Long Mejia, Matt Evans and many more are the cast members of this sitcom.
Ara Mina played as Miriam/ Mary-ann Rivero ( sounds like Marian Rivera) her character plays as an actress Miriam Rivero who escaped from the limelight because of many intrigues throwing against her (as we all know Marian is very controversial these days) so she disguised as a housemaid named Mary-ann instead of her real character name Miriam. There is also an actor who played Dongding Dante (Dingdong Dantes) but his character appeared only at the end part. There is also a scene where Ara's character was interviewed by a gay reporter that says they saw Miriam in John Estrada's house and they will have to wait outside to have her for an ambush interview. The gay reporter mentioned to the housemaid (Ara Mina) that Miriam (the actress) is "mang-aagaw ng boyfriend at Valentine date" inagaw ni Miriam Rivero si Dongding kay Kamille (instead of Karylle) Also a scene that surprised me is Roxanne Ginoo upon seeing Ara Mina that she doesnt believe that the maid and the actress Miriam is just one person. She also thought that she has a resemblance with Christine (Reyes) and that she is a fan of her and find her more popular, more beautiful than of Miriam Rivero (spoofed Marian Rivera)... Ara reacted this way: "excuse me mas maganda ako kay Christine noh! atsaka ayoko nga yung kailangan pang mag-over the bakod ng channel para lang sumikat...
I don't find the sitcom really funny or entertaining at all, I was just intrigued of what they will have to spoof about Marian-Dingdong and Karylle love triangle. Soon, i realized does the sitcom rides in with the popularity of Marian and Dingdong for them to have their sitcom to earn ratings? I wonder how the Marian solid fans would react from this episode. Well, it's still a publicity wether it's negative or positive. Sabi nga nila, imitation is the best form of flattery (but not all, huh?!)
P.S. I just noticed, there are no commercial load in their slot...tsk, tsk, tsk! Well...
